Closed collections

This is a working list that aims to list all zoological collections in Great Britain and Ireland that are now closed. If you can provide details of addition collections, corrections and, in particular, fill in any of the many missing dates of opening and closure, please contact us. Where possible, these details should be substantiated by references.

The definition of a zoological collection for the purpose of this list is: any premises where there was a collection of captive - and primarily non-domesticated - animals, which was opened to paying visitors on a regular basis. Excluded from this list, therefore, are travelling menageries and circuses, private collections which did not routinely admit paying visitors and, of course, collections that remain open.

You can also view the closed collections on a map.
